Listen To Your Heart — Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 3, 2026

Listen To Your Heart plays a chime when your heart rate leaves the target range you set, so you can hear how far off you are without looking at anything. It is built so that your health data never leaves your devices:

What we collect

The app has no accounts, no ads, no advertising tracking and no third-party SDKs. We never receive your heart rate, your target range or anything else from HealthKit. The iPhone app sends us anonymous usage analytics and an Apple Ads attribution token, both described below.

Anonymous usage analytics

The iPhone app sends a small number of anonymous usage events to our own server, so we can see whether the app works and where people get stuck. An event records which screen was shown first (the main screen or the subscription screen) and the steps of the subscription flow (the subscription screen was opened, Subscribe was tapped, and whether the purchase succeeded, was cancelled, is pending or failed, or whether Restore Purchases found a subscription). Each batch also carries the app version, the platform, whether it is an App Store, TestFlight or development build, and the country derived from the connection. The Apple Watch app sends nothing.

Events never contain health data: no heart rate, no target range, no session or workout details, nothing read from HealthKit. They are grouped by a random session id that is created each time the app launches and is never saved, so one launch cannot be linked to the next. We do not collect any account, device identifier, advertising identifier, name, email or Apple Account. Your IP address is looked at only while an event arrives, to tell our own test devices and automated traffic apart from real use, and is never stored. The data is not linked to your identity, is not used for tracking, and is not shared with or sold to anyone.

Events are sent over HTTPS to yourtechresume.com, a server run by the same developer as this app, not a third party. They are deleted after 45 days.

Apple Ads attribution

On first launch the iPhone app asks Apple's AdServices framework once for an attribution token and sends it, with a random ID created for this install, to our own server. Our server asks Apple's AdServices service which Apple Ads campaign, ad group and keyword, if any, led to the install, then deletes the token and keeps that answer with the random ID. A subscription bought in the app carries the same random ID, and Apple's subscription notifications (product, trial, renewal, cancellation and refund events, with Apple's transaction identifier) reach the same server, so we can count subscriptions and revenue per ad campaign.

The token contains no name, Apple Account, device identifier or advertising identifier, and none of this includes your heart rate or anything read from HealthKit. It is used only to measure our own ads: not to track you across other companies' apps or websites, and not to show you ads. It is not shared with or sold to anyone. To have these records deleted, email us.

Heart rate data

On Apple Watch the app reads your live heart rate from Apple's HealthKit, with your permission, for the duration of a session you start yourself. That reading is used immediately and only to decide whether to play a chime and which rhythm to play.

Heart rate values are not recorded, not stored, and not transmitted off your devices. The app requests read access only — it never writes anything to HealthKit or to your Health app. You can revoke access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.

While a session runs, the app also reads your workouts from HealthKit, read-only, for one reason: to notice when a workout you are doing ends, so the session ends with it. It looks only at when that workout ended. Nothing about your workouts is recorded, stored or sent anywhere.

Notifications

If watchOS pauses the app's background listening, the watch shows a local notification so you know the chime has stopped and can carry on. The app asks for notification permission the first time you start a session. Notifications are created on the watch itself; no notification is sent from a server.

Communication between your watch and your phone

When both devices are present, the watch sends each reading to your iPhone so the chime plays through whatever you are already listening on — headphones, a car stereo, a speaker. This goes over Apple's WatchConnectivity link between your own two paired devices. It does not pass through the internet or any server we control.

What is stored on your device

Only your settings: the minimum and maximum of your target range, and the state of the built-in test slider. These live in the app's own local storage on your device and are removed when you delete the app.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone.

Not a medical device

Listen To Your Heart is a fitness aid, not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition, and it should not be used to monitor a medical condition. Talk to a doctor before choosing a target heart-rate zone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version appears on this page with a new date above.
